I have a top loader 4 spd transmission for sale. Has had new syncro rings, bearings and seals, and shifts quick and smooth. It has a C5 case casting which was used up through 67 with a partial VIN stamped on the top left flange. According to the books it would have been used in a factory performance car. It has a short 14" Tail shaft housing, D0ZR-7A040, cast in 1970 with both front and rear shifter location holes, so it will fit multiple models. The tag says RUG-M2 which comes back to a 68 Mustang/Cougar 390 GT 4 bbl. It is a 1-1/16th 10 spline input shaft with a 28 spline output shaft which would be correct for the 390. They were available with either close or wide ratio gear sets, this one is the wide ratio with a 2.78:1 low gear. So it has a lower first gear than the close ratio option. Obviously it does not have all the correct castings for a concourse numbers matching restoration, but has all the right specs to match the 390 tag. It will work on all small blocks from 260 to 351Ws and Clevelands, and the 390, providing you have the correct bell housing. It is an 8 bolt case which has the early narrow mounting and the later wide mounting bolt pattern. It has a Hurst shifter mount with it, part #3176. It has the trans mount on it as well.
